Shelley Pascual is a German-speaking multimedia journalist, content creator and Toronto native who has lived in Europe for the past five years. Her work has been published in several media outlets, including The Local Germany and J-Source.
She was invited to attend Deutsche Welle’s Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany this month ‘as a journalist who crosses boundaries between Germany and Canada.’
Last September, Shelley graduated with a Distinction from the MA International Journalism program at Cardiff University. She also obtained a Distinction on the current affairs documentary she produced for her Masters dissertation.
Prior to her year in Wales, she was a Corporate Trainer to executives at Volkswagen Financial Services in Germany. Having lived in Germany for several years, she taught herself the German language and learned how to integrate into a culture completely different from her own.
Prior to moving to Germany, Shelley spent one year working and backpacking solo throughout Australia. Her experiences as a foreigner living abroad and travelling widely are what inspired her to pursue a career in journalism.
Shelley also has an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design. Having studied at OCAD University, she is a creative and conceptual thinker. She also has a critical eye for typography and photography.
As a result of her diverse background and varied professional experience, she is very keen on continuing to work abroad in a culture that is different from her own.
In her free time, Shelley enjoys going for joy rides on her vintage motorcycle, mountain biking and baking anything with chocolate in it. She is enthusiastic about languages and inspired by people who go after their dreams.
